30 Day Weight Loss Challenge……Healthy Curb

Edited to say:  This is my 100th Post!  Help….I’ve fallen and I can’t shut up!  ;)

Ok, folks…..it’s Challenge Time!

A few days ago, I was asked to do a 30 Day Weight Loss Challenge using a supplement called Healthy Curb with NT Factor.  My first thought was….diet pills?  No thanks.  I envisioned being hopped up on herbs and stimulants and as fun as that might be for some people, that’s just not my bag, baby.

However, I am very curious by nature and decided to look through the information and found that Healthy Curb is completely safe, made entirely from food, with no caffeine, stimulants, or herbs of any kind.  It won’t keep me awake at night (unlike my children), give me a racing heart, jitters, and it doesn’t interact with medications.  It is also gluten free and contains probiotics which are a primary concern for me due to having Celiac’s Disease.

So, ok, now I’m interested.  What exactly is Healthy Curb?  It is a supplement made entirely from food and food extracts.  It contains 500 mg. each of NT Factor (their proprietary formula for cell repair) and White Kidney Bean Extract which together regulates appetite and metabolism on a cellular level and blocks simple starches in the diet.  They have done several clinical studies.  They have even tested the product on people WITHOUT having them make any changes to their diet/exercise routine.  The participants lost an average of 2″ around the waist, 1″ off the hips, reduced their appetites by 44%, all had increased energy, and 63% of the participants lost an average of 6 pounds in 60 days without dieting.  The physicians behind this supplement certainly do believe that diet and exercise are an integral part in the success of any weight loss plan but it is nice to see that they tested this product solely on its own merit.

They are so confident in their product that they are providing me with a 30 day supply for review purposes.  They have not asked me to change my diet at all.  This pill is designed to fix my hunger hormones and improve my digestion.  They want me to blog about it while I’m taking it. If I like it and it helps me, they know that is the best kind of testimonial.  If it works for me they know I’m going to tell you about it.  If it doesn’t work for me, they know I’m going to tell that too.  They are so sure that they have a great product that they are putting themselves out there to be tested.  Soon, they will be providing me with a discount code for my readers.  Please know that I receive no monetary benefit whatsoever if you buy it.  I’m simply using their provided sample and blogging honestly about my experience.  I will be provided with samples for as long as I choose to continue to take this supplement and blog about it.

So, check out their website when you get a chance and let me know what you think.  I really hope it will help with my energy levels which have dropped greatly the past few weeks.  My appetite with Jorge’s Belly Fat Cure is already suppressed but I can still use all the help in that area that I can get.  In addition, I’m stalled at this set point so if Healthy Curb can get the scale moving again, I’ll be thrilled!

I will be taking two tablets 20 minutes before each meal.  I took my first two tablets today before lunch and so far so good.  I haven’t grown a third arm or anything!  However….wouldn’t a third arm be nice?  I could get so much done!  All joking aside, I’m really looking forward to seeing how this supplement works.

The jury is out, let’s see how things go over the next 30 days!

Ghrelin and Leptin – Controlling Hunger

January 11th, 2010

4x4_FryWell_LargeDrinkAs Dr. R discussed in this week’s Food Curb video, there are two hormones that play important roles in controlling your hunger: leptin and ghrelin. Leptin is produced by the body’s fat cells and travels to the brain to pass the message that you are satiated and no longer hungry. Ghrelin is produced by the stomach and travels to the brain when you are hungry. For most people leptin and ghrelin work together to tell the brain when the body needs fuel, or food.

In cases of obesity, even though we have plenty of fat stored, the high insulin levels in our bodies combine with high leptin levels so the stomach turns off the cells that make ghrelin. Leptin levels are high while ghrelin levels are low. This imbalance means that the cells that would usually tell our brain that our body has had enough to eat are no longer working, causing the person to constantly feel hungry.

One of the easiest ways to balance the ghrelin and leptin levels in our bodies is developing good sleeping habits. When people fail to get the recommended 6 to 8 hours of sleep each night , they over-stimulate their ghrelin production, which increases the desire for food. Simultaneously, lack of sleep reduces the production of leptin which is the body’s appetite suppressant. In summary, if you don’t get the right amount of sleep, the hormones in your body begin sending hunger signals to the brain even though the body is not hungry, and constantly eating when you’re not hungry can quickly lead to extra pounds.

It is also important to maintain a balanced diet to regulate your hunger hormones. Overeating on a regular basis results in increased insulin, which as we said before, will disrupt the cells that create ghrelin, causing your body to constantly feel hungry. Healthy Curb can help you maintain this balance by reducing appetite and the tendency to over-eat through the action of controlling blood glucose. It also increases insulin sensitivity of cellular receptors by acting on the kinase signaling mechanism inside the individual cells. This action allows more sugar to be pulled out of the blood and into the cells to be burned as fuel rather than disrupting the ghrelin and leptin balance. By getting enough sleep and using Healthy Curb, keeping your hunger hormones balanced should be easy!

Burn Calories Without Exercise

January 6th, 2010

745px-RakesOldAndNewA workout regimen combining cardiovascular activity with some additional weight training is always the best way to burn calories, but fitting a workout into an already hectic schedule can be difficult to do. Today we’ll be sharing with you some everyday activities that burn calories and won’t cut into you daily schedule.

Cleaning, like exercising, is usually something we dread doing. Vacuuming, scrubbing bathtubs, ironing laundry, and taking out trash may not be particularly enjoyable, but they do burn considerable calories without us even noticing. Tidying up the house can burn anywhere from 150 to 250 calories an hour. So break out those cleaning supplies and lose weight while getting your home squeaky clean.

Lots of people spend hours digging and planting, trying to create the perfect garden full of colorful flowers and flourishing shrubbery. Little do they know that all that gardening can cut inches off the waistline by burning around 300 calories an hour!

Maybe gardening isn’t your thing, well don’t worry, there are still plenty of calories to be burned in the yard. Even those with the worst green thumb will have to mow the grass burning 325 calories per hour, and the number of calories burned skyrockets when it comes time to rake those fall leaves or shovel the winter snow. Next time you don’t feel like hitting the gym, pick up some lawn tools and spend the day tending to your front yard.

Some other easy ways to burn a few more calories without getting a gym membership are taking the stairs rather than the elevator, parking your car farther away from stores, or walking a lap around the entire mall before beginning your shopping trip. Not in the mood to leave the house? Just do push ups and sit ups during commercial breaks while watching your favorite TV show. Some people find it fun to incorporate dance into their daily routine. Go ahead… blast those speakers and dance those calories away! And don’t forget that Healthy Curb can help immensely by changing the way you burn those calories. Check out the new science of weight loss! Now that you know that exercising doesn’t necessarily mean going to the gym, you’ll be able to shed calories easily.

Stay in Shape for Life with Weight Training

January 4th, 2010

Mieko_Hart_Co_Founder_of_Miekos_FitnessWhen we think about losing weight and leading a healthy life, two things come to mind: diet and exercise. Both are equally important and integral to a long and healthy life. Unfortunately, when we think exercise, our minds are limited to picturing a treadmill or perhaps even an elliptical. Cardiovascular or aerobic exercise is a great way to burn calories, and weight training is the key to developing muscles that will keep you in shape for life.

Lifting weights improves the overall well-being of your entire body. It helps to sculpt where cardio leaves off as well as tighten areas dieting cannot target alone. Weight training also helps to boost your metabolism by building muscles that continue to work for you all day. It is a scientific fact that the more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn each day. By building muscular endurance you also decrease your chances of getting hurt. Your body will be stronger and more likely to bounce back from illness and missing a day at the gym.

Training with weights also strengthens your bones. This is most important for concentrating on longevity, which should be the overall goal of exercise. Building up bone structure will decrease the chances of a break when your body ages. By reducing the chances of broken bones, you can also add years to your life.

One of the most common myths about weight lifting is that it is exclusively for men because if women lift they will bulk up. This cannot be further from the truth. In fact, women actually need to lift more than their male counterparts because they have lower levels of bone density. Women should focus on lifting smaller amounts of weight and lift for a higher volume of reps. This routine builds muscle by toning instead of bulking up like the myth goes.

All in all weight lifting is a very important aspect of hitting the gym. Even if you have never trained, it is easier to pick up than you think. So, when you start or restart your fitness routine in the New Year, remember to include weight training in your daily regimen. You might include Healthy Curb, too, which has been proven to increase muscle mass while you sculpt your body!
